Wrinkles have a way of making us look older than we actually are, but there are many ways to reduce and prevent wrinkles.

Here at Rejuvime Medical, we are proud to be your go-to anti-aging clinic in Metairie, and we offer many different anti-aging services to curb the effects of aging and make you look and feel younger.  If there’s one side effect of aging that adds the most years on to your appearance, it has to be wrinkles. Fighting wrinkles is a great way to turn back the clock, at least on your appearance, and in our last blog, we went over several tips for reducing and preventing wrinkles. Here are a few more tips to help you combat wrinkles:

#7. Eat More Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Omega 3 Fatty Acids are a great addition to your diet for cardiovascular health, but there is another major benefit of getting enough Omega 3s in your diet: youthful looking skin. Omega 3s help to nourish the skin, and they keep it youthful and plump, which helps to combat wrinkles. Flaxseed oil, fish (particularly salmon or Mackerel), walnuts, chia seeds, soybeans and spinach are all excellent sources of Omega 3 Fatty Acids.

#8. Exfoliate Your Skin

Exfoliating may not actually prevent or reduce wrinkles, but it can reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Excess oil, dirt, dead skin cells and other debris that cling to the skin can make wrinkles appear more pronounced and make your skin look older. Exfoliation helps to remove these things, and it allows your anti-aging lotions and other treatments to penetrate your skin more effectively. Exfoliating should be a part of your regular beauty routine, but don’t overdo it. If you exfoliate too much, it can irritate your skin and dry it out. Limit exfoliation to just once or twice a week.

#9. Drink Plenty of Water

Most people don’t drink as much water was they should, but it’s essential for a number of reasons. In addition to all of the health benefits associated with drinking water, it’s also an excellent addition to your anti-aging routine. When your body is dehydrated, it pulls water out of your skin, which exaggerates wrinkles and other signs of aging, such as sunken-in eyes, and it can cause your skin to become flaky or cracked. When you drink enough water, it keeps your skin cells healthy and more plump. Keep in mind that drinking more water than your body needs won’t reverse or prevent wrinkles; it will just leave you running to the bathroom more often.

#10. Exercise Regularly

Exercise is an irreplaceable part of a healthy lifestyle, and it may or may not surprise you to learn that, in addition to the plethora of health benefits associated with exercise, it’s also great for your skin. Not only can exercise keep you looking younger and prevent wrinkles, but studies have found that regular exercise can help to reverse the signs of aging, like wrinkles, even among people who didn’t start working out until later in life. One study conducted by McMaster University in Ontario found that men and women who led an active lifestyle had skin that appeared more youthful, and they also had a thicker dermis layer in their skin.

#11. Eat Your Fruits and Vegetables

Free radicals are unstable molecules in the body that can damage cells. Free radicals are the result of reactions in the cells, and some of the most common sources of free radicals are ultraviolet radiation and cigarette smoke. The only way to combat free radicals and the damage they can cause is to get plenty of antioxidants in your diet, which are commonly found in fruits and vegetables. Consuming plenty of antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables can help to protect your skin against many of the effects of photoaging, and it can help your skin to look more radiant and youthful.

#12. Avoid Overwashing Your Face

Believe it or not, there is such a thing as washing your face too much. Even if you use a specialized face wash, it can still strip your face of the natural oils that help to protect the skin against wrinkles, flaking and cracking. In addition to the cleanser drying out your skin and stripping it of its natural oils, tap water can do the same thing. Stick to washing your face just once a day, and make it a point to moisturize your skin properly after it has been washed.

Nothing ages up your look quite like wrinkles do, but the good news is that you aren’t defenseless against wrinkles. We’ve gone over lots of different tips to help you avoid wrinkles, but there are many other steps you can take as well. At Rejuvime, we offer cosmetic injectables, like Botox®.
