Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT)

How to achieve optimal results:

Consult with a highly trained medical professional

All medicine requires extensive training, balancing hormones especially, and this isn’t something traditionally taught in medical school. The medical professionals of Rejuvime Medical are all required to undergo extensive training focused solely on Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) for our patients in Baton Rouge, Denham Springs, and Metairie.

What are Bioidentical Hormones?

Bioidentical hormones are hormones that are natural (i.e. not synthesized in the lab) and are identical in their molecular structure to human hormones. Therefore, your body treats them and processes them in the same way that it treats its own hormones. Your body’s ability to recognize the hormones in your system makes a huge difference in being able to reap the benefits of the actions that that hormone is built to perform.

Which Bioidentical Hormones does Rejuvime Offer?

Man and Woman Smiling Happy

Estrogen is instrumental in helping women with the symptoms of menopause. Prior to the onset of menopause, the body’s estrogen levels plummet to approximately one-tenth of what they were when the woman was in her 20s, and the lower levels of these hormones not only trigger menopause, they also can contribute to loss of bone density, increased risk of heart disease, low libido, mood swings, weight gain, and migraines. Replacing this estrogen with synthetic (non-bioidentical) hormone therapy has been shown to be associated with negative consequences, but now bioidentical hormones have been developed, which is what we use here in the Revujime age-defying clinic.*

Progesterone is an important hormone for both men and women in different contexts.

  • In women, progesterone is produced in the ovaries and performs many functions (like helping to maintain pregnancy). In the anti-aging context, women who are taking estrogen therapy must combine their estrogen intake with progesterone in order to counterbalance the effects of estrogen on the ovaries. Estrogen alone stimulates the growth of the ovary lining, which may contribute to an increased risk of cancer.**
  • In men, progesterone is a precursor hormone for testosterone. Precursor means that the body transforms progesterone into testosterone. In other words, progesterone is a necessary building block for testosterone, and having enough of it in your system can help to combat a deficiency when your own body is seeking to build more testosterone hormones.**

Clomid is a drug (clomiphene) that is approved by the FDA for prescription as a fertility medication, as it stimulates the body to produce the hormones that trigger ovulation, primarily estrogen, luteinizing hormone (LH), and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). The benefit of this is that it stimulates your body’s systems to produce your very own hormones. In the anti-aging world, this is one of the ways to increase your hormone levels without even taking hormone supplements. There are very controlled situations where this would be useful, and our staff will make recommendations for when and how to implement Clomid into your anti-aging treatment.**

Testosterone is a naturally-occurring hormone in both men and women, though men have a greater quantity of it. It’s the male sex hormone, and it not only contributes to having a deep voice, facial hair, and broad shoulders, proper testosterone levels can also help a person to have more energy, decreased body fat, and an overall feeling of well-being. However, as your body ages, testosterone levels fall drastically. Replacing this testosterone with bioidentical hormone testosterone can be a welcome relief for many of the symptoms of aging.**

DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is a hormone that is a precursor to both estrogen and testosterone. Being a precursor means that the body can use DHEA as a building block for your sex hormones, and it is flexible enough to go either way. Therefore we’ve found that boosting your DHEA levels can be beneficial to boosting the end-result hormones that your body is deficient in. In addition to taking estrogen or testosterone straight, sometimes we recommend DHEA as well, which will allow the body to make its own estrogen or testosterone. DHEA also boosts muscle, which helps you to look toned and at your best and enjoy greater strength.**

Pregnenolone is the precursor to all steroid hormones, including estrogen and testosterone, but its effects on our well-being reach many different areas, from boosting memory and cognitive function to reducing inflammation to combating depression. So not only will you feel better, smarter, and happier, you’ll also be giving your body the building blocks it needs to develop the hormones it needs.**
