Why Does Your Libido Decline with Age?
Many factors affect sexual desire, including psychological, social, and physical conditions. The reasons for the decline in sex drive differ for women and men, but both involve hormonal changes that occur naturally during menopause and andropause.
Women’s Sexual Wellness
Decreasing estrogen levels as women enter perimenopause affects libido and the physical response to stimulation. Additionally, the hot flashes, weight gain, and sleep problems that typically accompany menopause can also make it harder for women to “get in the mood.” Childbirth also puts a lot of pressure on women’s bodies, and multiple pregnancies can affect the female anatomy.

Sexual Wellness Therapies for Men & Women
Even though our society tends to focus more on sexual wellness treatments for men, Rejuvime Medical offers therapies for both women and men. In addition to the benefits of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), several oral medications can help boost your overall sexual wellness.
HRT for Women
The most common treatment for hormonal imbalances in women is estrogen replacement therapy to address the rapid decline in estrogen levels associated with perimenopause and menopause. We also check thyroid levels because too much or too little thyroid hormone can cause unwanted symptoms before, during, and after menopause. Testosterone is equally important for women, who can improve libido and sexual function with testosterone replacement therapy.
HRT for Men
Low testosterone—low T—is the primary reason for a reduced sex drive in men. Men naturally see their libido decline as they get older, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they need testosterone replacement therapy. Some men, however, experience a more significant loss of testosterone and can benefit from HRT.
Medications for Sexual Dysfunction
Oral medications are popular treatments for men diagnosed with erectile dysfunction, or ED. These include sildenafil (Viagra®) and tadalafil (Cialis). Trimix is an extremely effective ED treatment that combines 3 medications that are injected.
PT 141 is a synthetic peptide used to treat sexual dysfunction for both men and women. It not only increases blood flow to the penis and clitoris but increases overall sexual desire by stimulating specific brain receptors.
Vaginal Rejuvenation with PRP
Vaginal rejuvenation with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treats various symptoms associated with sexual wellness. These include painful sex, vaginal dryness, frequent urinary infections, and urinary incontinence. This is a natural treatment using PRP from your own blood. After drawing blood, we spin it in a centrifuge to isolate the portion of the plasma that is rich in platelets. It’s then painlessly injected in and around the vaginal canal. The platelet-rich plasma contains a high concentration of growth factors and proteins that promote vaginal health and sensitivity.
