To sustain healthy functions of our body and organs, our bodies require certain nutrients to flourish. To supplement the lack of obtaining these nutrients through the foods we consume, we often take vitamins. The consumption of vitamins is most widely known in a pill form; however, is this the most effective way for our bodies to absorb the optimal levels of nutrients from these supplements? In this article, we will discuss another increasingly popular option for vitamin and nutrient consumption: IV Nutrient Therapy.
What is IV Therapy?
IV therapy is an intravenous nutrient therapy that is administered directly into the veins. From beefing up hydration, aiding in fatigue, boosting energy levels, to restoring vitamin levels, IV nutrient therapy is becoming an increasingly popular option.
What are the Benefits of IV Therapy?
With intravenous (IV) nutrient therapy consistently gaining popularity, we thought it appropriate to share a few reasons as to why so many people are turning to IV-administered nutrient therapy to enhance their body’s overall function and/or acute issues. While IV nutrient therapy is most commonly known in locations with a hefty party scene as the “hangover cure,” it also provides a wide range of other benefits for those with other medical conditions. From chronic fatigue and depression to fibromyalgia to cancer, IV administered nutrients have been reported beneficial to a wide array of health conditions.
IV therapy is a more efficient way for the body to absorb nutrients. In a study published on Web MD, Dr. Eliseo Guallar, a professor of epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health said, “We believe that it’s clear that vitamins are not working,” when commenting on the efficiency of orally consumed vitamins.

The Myers’ “Wellness” Cocktail is our most common IV Infusion. It is a nutritional “cocktail” given intravenously (IV), or through a vein. It consists of magnesium, calcium, various B vitamins, and vitamin C. The Myers’ Cocktail (aka Revitalize on our menu) has been used to treat general fatigue, chronic fatigue syndrome/fibromyalgia, relieve acute asthma attacks, upper respiratory tract infections, chronic sinus infections, seasonal allergies, migraine headaches, muscle spasms, menstrual cramps, as well as to support recovery from endurance athletics. Many relatively healthy patients choose to receive periodic Myers’ Cocktail injections because it enhances their overall well-being for variable periods of time.
We recommend and administer Wellness IVs when a person is run down, fatigued, under moderate to severe stress or is at the beginning of an illness such as flu or cold. Many patients respond to treatment with results lasting days to several months. About 50% of the people we have given IV Myers’ for an oncoming flu/cold/respiratory bug get immediate relief and resolution of their illness. Others get a significant reduction in illness severity and length.
Also, IVs can increase muscle performance and cut muscle recovery in half!
How often should I receive IV Therapy?
This varies from patient to patient. Some patients require regular injections, depending on their medical conditions, while others have it administered on an as-needed basis.
Are there any side-effects I should know about from IV Therapy?
Besides an overall improvement in your energy and stamina, the side-effects associated with IV infusions are minimal. Other positive side-effects can include increased concentration, improved memory, increased mental clarity, and an improved overall mood.
If the provider administers an IV infusion too quickly, it can sometimes cause a feeling of faintness, dizziness, or nausea. The only known allergic reaction to IV nutrients has been when using those with preservatives, and these reactions are quite rare. Some patients may experience burning at the localized IV site. As with any injectable treatment, there is always a risk of infection or phlebitis, although it is also very rare.
